Saint Firmin sur Loire was for a long time a boatmen’s town; this ancient island is today linked to Briare by the “Pont-Canal” (canal bridge). You can discover there, from the left bank, this civil engineering work. Old houses from the end of the 16th and beginning of the 18th centuries. In Saint-Firmin’s church, you can discover a Louis the 13th gilt-wooded altarpiece. In the chancel are inscriptions marking 19th century flood levels of the river Loire which regularly flooded it.
2 private châteaux not open to visitors: Le Colombier (Grande Rue) : castle of the 18th-century and “Château de la Motte” : the current castle, built around 1875, was built on the feudal castle’s location (visible from the lateral Loire canal).
