Ousson name comes from the Latin word "osculum" meaning the small mouth. The Ousson river empties into the Loire at the commune level.
In the heart of the village stands a 12th-century church built by the Brotherhood of Saint Vincent. The nave is dedicated to Saint Vincent, the patron saint of wine growers.
Three towers remain to illustrate the existence of fortifications built in the 16th century. In order for inhabitants to build their house within these walls they had to pay a tax.
